Getting started
Converting between SOL and USDC on Axiom
Axiom's wallet has a Convert function so you can park gains in USDC without leaving the terminal, and a separate SOL–USDC bridge that funds perps on Hyperliquid. People confuse the two, and the single most common conversion error is a wallet with USDC but no SOL to pay for the transaction. This guide covers both tools and every reason a conversion fails.
Two different USDC balances
| USDC on Solana | USDC on Hyperliquid | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | Your Axiom wallet, as an SPL token | Your perps margin account |
| How you get it | Wallet button, then swap (Convert) | SOL–USDC button at the top right, convert SOL |
| What it is for | Holding value, sending to exchanges, converting back to SOL | Opening leveraged positions |
| Getting it back | Convert to SOL, instant | Convert to USDC on Solana, about 5 minutes |
How to convert SOL to USDC (or back) in the wallet
Click the wallet button
Axiom's Convert docs start here. The panel shows your SOL and USDC balances.
Click the swap button
Choose the direction, SOL to USDC or USDC to SOL, and enter an amount. Leave some SOL behind if you are converting SOL.
Confirm
Convert is an on-chain swap, so it uses your priority fee and slippage settings and confirms in seconds.
How to move SOL into perps margin
Click the SOL–USDC button at the top right, click the swap button, enter the SOL amount and click Convert. Axiom moves the value to Hyperliquid as USDC. To withdraw, repeat the process in reverse; Axiom's docs say the USDC arrives on Solana after roughly five minutes. The perps guide covers what to do once the margin is there.
Why "Convert failed, nothing was sent"
The message means the transaction never confirmed and your balances are unchanged. Causes, in order of likelihood:
| Cause | How to recognise it | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No SOL for fees | SOL balance near zero while USDC balance is fine | Deposit 0.01 to 0.02 SOL and retry |
| Converting all your SOL | You pressed Max on SOL to USDC | Leave a small SOL balance; the swap itself costs SOL |
| Token account rent | First time this wallet has held USDC | Solana needs a small SOL deposit to create the account; keep a buffer |
| Congestion | Other transactions are also slow | Raise priority fee, or wait |
| Slippage | Large amount during a sharp SOL move | Split the conversion or allow slightly more slippage |
| Wrong balance | The USDC you see is on Hyperliquid | Bring it back to Solana first via the SOL–USDC button |
If it keeps failing, look up your address on Solscan. No transaction means nothing was sent and you can retry safely. A failed transaction with a reason such as "insufficient lamports" confirms the SOL-buffer problem.
Sending USDC out of Axiom
Solana USDC can be sent to any exchange or wallet that accepts USDC on the Solana network. Sending it to an address on another network loses it. If in doubt, convert to SOL and send SOL, which every Solana venue accepts. Steps are in how to withdraw.
Convert FAQ
Does Axiom charge a fee to convert?
Axiom's docs list no separate conversion charge. You pay the Solana network fee and any priority fee, and the swap's quoted rate includes market spread.
Can I hold USDC on Axiom to avoid volatility?
Yes. Axiom's docs describe Convert as the way to move into USDC "to stay protected from crypto volatility". Keep some SOL alongside it for fees.
Why can't I find the Convert button?
It is inside the wallet panel, reached from the wallet button, then the swap icon. The SOL–USDC button at the top right is the perps bridge, not the wallet converter.
How long does Hyperliquid USDC take to come back?
About five minutes, according to Axiom's perps withdrawal docs.
