Perps and yield
Axiom staking and yield
Axiom offers three documented ways to earn on SOL you are not trading: stake it directly to Axiom's own validator at 0% commission, stake through Axiom's website to receive axiSOL, its liquid staking token, or lend it through Marginfi for a variable yield Axiom advertises as up to 15% APY. Each has a different fee, a different lock-up and a different risk.
The three options compared
| Native staking | axiSOL | Marginfi yield | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How | Delegate SOL to the Axiom validator from Axiom, Phantom or Ledger | Stake on Axiom's website, receive axiSOL | Supply assets through Axiom's Marginfi integration |
| Fee | 0% commission | 5% of earnings, plus 0.1% on withdrawal | Not stated by Axiom |
| Rewards | 100% of inflation and MEV rewards | Staking rewards minus the fee | "Up to 15% APY", variable |
| Liquidity | Standard Solana unstaking period | Liquid; axiSOL is a token you can trade or move | Instant withdrawals, per Axiom's FAQ |
| Main risk | Validator performance; SOL price | Stake pool program risk; axiSOL price versus SOL | Lending protocol risk; rate changes |
Native staking to the Axiom validator
Axiom runs its own validator and says it was one of the first adopters of Harmonic, which it credits with higher rewards for stakers. Staking directly carries 0% commission, so Axiom's docs say you receive 100% of inflation and MEV rewards from your stake. The validator appears in Phantom's and Ledger's staking interfaces as well as in Axiom.

axiSOL liquid staking
Staking through Axiom's website gives you axiSOL (Axiom Staked SOL), managed by Solana's audited Stake Pool Program. The token keeps earning while remaining tradeable, which is the point of liquid staking. Axiom charges 5% of earnings to fund operations and 0.1% on withdrawals, which it says prevents arbitrage attacks. Axiom's docs state that axiSOL secures over 400,000 SOL.
Two things to know: axiSOL trades at a market price that can drift from the underlying SOL, and converting back to SOL on Axiom pays the 0.1% fee. Over a year that fee is small next to the yield; over a week it may not be.
Marginfi yield
Axiom's FAQ says you can earn up to 15% APY on your assets with instant withdrawals through its partner Marginfi, a lending protocol. Lending rates move with borrowing demand, so "up to" is the operative phrase: the live rate can be far lower. Lending also carries smart-contract and liquidity risk that staking does not.
Which to choose
- Long-term SOL you will not touch: native staking, for the 0% commission and the simplest risk profile.
- SOL you might need to trade on short notice: axiSOL, accepting the 5% and 0.1% fees for liquidity.
- Chasing the highest quoted rate: Marginfi, with eyes open about variability and protocol risk.
Staking FAQ
Is staking on Axiom safe?
Native staking keeps SOL in a stake account you control, delegated to a validator; the risks are validator performance and SOL price. axiSOL and Marginfi add program and protocol risk. None of them are insured.
What is axiSOL?
Axiom's liquid staking token. You receive it when staking through Axiom's site, it earns rewards minus a 5% fee, and it can be traded or moved while staked.
What does the Axiom validator charge?
0% commission, so stakers receive the full inflation and MEV rewards, according to Axiom's docs.
Is the 15% APY guaranteed?
No. Axiom says "up to 15%". Lending yields vary continuously with demand.
