Getting started
How to sell on Axiom Trade
Selling on Axiom mirrors buying: open the token, switch the panel to Sell, choose a percentage or amount, confirm. The differences are that sells rarely need MEV protection, they still need SOL in the wallet for the network fee, and on a thin pool a large sell can return far less than the chart implies. This guide covers each sell type and the reasons a sell fails.
Four ways to sell
| Method | Best for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sell panel | Taking profit or cutting a loss now | Token page, Sell tab |
| Instant Trade hotkeys | Fast exits on volatile tokens | Popup beside the chart |
| Limit sell | Exiting at a target while away from the screen | Order panel slider or chart line |
| Migration sell | Dumping a token automatically when it migrates | Sell, then Advanced, then Migration |
Selling from the panel
Open the token and switch to Sell
The panel shows your holding and its current SOL value.
Pick a percentage or an amount
Preset percentage buttons (for example 25%, 50%, 100%) sell that share of your holding. You can also type an amount.
Confirm
The sell is sent with your priority fee and slippage settings. The SOL arrives in your wallet when it confirms, and the portfolio records the realised PnL.
Instant Trade and hotkeys
With hotkeys enabled in the Instant Trade popup, Space plus the assigned key sells a preset percentage. It is the fastest exit Axiom offers and the easiest to trigger by accident, so keep hotkeys off unless you are actively managing a position.
Limit sells
A limit sell executes only when the price reaches your level. Axiom lets you set it with the slider in the order panel or by dragging the price line on the chart. It lets you hold a position to a target without watching, but a limit order does not guarantee a fill if liquidity vanishes. The limit orders guide covers behaviour on thin pools.
Migration sells
If you hold a bonding-curve token and want out the moment it migrates, Axiom's sniper-sell module does it automatically: go to Sell, click Advanced, click Migration, and enter the order details. Axiom describes it as protection for when you realise a token is not what you thought. Full detail in migration sniper.
Why sells fail
| Message or symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Insufficient SOL for fees | Wallet holds tokens but almost no SOL | Deposit a small amount of SOL, then retry |
| Slippage exceeded | Price fell faster than your limit during confirmation | Raise slippage for this sell, or sell in smaller parts |
| Sell returns much less than expected | Pool too thin for your size; price impact | Sell in tranches; accept that liquidity, not Axiom, set the price |
| Sell transaction expired | Priority fee too low for current congestion | Raise priority fee and resend |
| Cannot sell at all | Honeypot-style token that blocks sells, or liquidity removed | Nothing Axiom can do; this is why you check before buying |
The settings behind the first four rows are explained in settings explained and the full error list is in transaction failed.
What happens to the SOL
Proceeds land in the same Axiom wallet. From there you can trade again, convert to USDC to step out of volatility, stake it, or withdraw to an exchange or another wallet. Axiom's trading fee is charged on the sell as it was on the buy, so the round-trip cost is the number to beat.
Selling FAQ
Do I need MEV protection to sell?
Axiom's docs say MEV protection is only necessary for buys and does not need to be enabled for selling on most tokens.
Can I sell part of a position?
Yes. The sell panel's percentage buttons and the Instant Trade hotkeys both sell a chosen share of the holding.
Why is my sell value lower than the market cap suggests?
Market cap is price multiplied by supply; it says nothing about how much SOL is actually in the pool. Selling into a thin pool moves the price against you.
Can I set a stop-loss on spot trades?
Axiom's spot docs describe limit orders rather than a dedicated stop-loss. Take-profit and stop-loss settings are documented for perps positions. See perps.
